Brainstorm:
What is happening - Picture 1
- reaping scene - 2 tributes selected to compete in the Hunger Games.
- Best dressed.
Describe Costumes
- Light colours, neutral tones, old fashioned, simple.
- Boys - shirts shirts, pants or shorts.
- Both wear formal / Sunday best.
- Girls - hair tidy, dresses or skirts.
- Colour - cold, clean, faded - washed and worn a lot.
- Older clothes mended.
Effect on viewer
- Think they poor - because clothes are outdated - Peacekeepers / Effie in new clean outfits.
- Think it is a bad living - emotionless, all the colour has been drained.
Director Purpose
- Show the comparison / juxtaposition of the district and the capital.
- Shows theme 'Rich vs Poor' because district doesn't have access to resources like new clothing.
Other Techniques
- Make-up - style = status, Effies eye lashes are long and pink and her face is white. The district has no make-up-no access or need for it.
What is happening - Picture 2
- In the Capitol, Katniss and Peeta just getting off the train, have never been there before.
Describe Costumes
- Bright, colourful, neon, extravagant, vibrant, oversized.
- Look expensive and more fancy than casual.
- Over the top - excessive, more than needed to be practical.
- Head pieces to match, wigs.
- Both genders over the top outfits / wigs / make-up.
Effect on viewer
- Think they are rich / greed - have more than us.
- Fashion is shocking / scary to viewer - in your face.
- Show us how shocked / different things are for Katniss and Peeta.
Director Purpose
- Again shows us theme 'Rich vs Poor' - the people in capitol live in extreme luxury compared to the poverty of district 12.
- People in the Capitol have everything.
Other Techniques
- Make-up - over the top - caked on so we know they have lots. Men / Women wear it.
- Setting - concrete, metal, glass, clean, crisp, futuristic, technologically advance.
What is happening - Picture 3
- In the arena of the Hunger Games.
Describe Costumes
- Practical - suitable for fighting.
- Jackets, boots, shirts, long pants.
- Colours that will match surrounding - help them hide.
- Tells us about the arena climate.
- Not going far as not much.
Effect on viewer
- Feels like they are dressed for war / hunting - all dressed same uniform.
- All look same - every has the same advantage.
- Makes us less emotionally attached to individuals.
Director Purpose
- Rich vs Poor - every one is finally equal so personal skills become important.
- Struggle for power - tributes are under the power of the Capitol, they have no freedom / free will at this point.
In the reaping scene, costume is used effectively to show the theme 'Rich vs Poor'. (e)For example, the potential tributes are dressed in formal shirts, skirts and trousers. Their clothes are well-worn, weathered and dull. (x)This make us understand the people in District 12 because their best clothes are old and faded compared to the Capitol representative Effie Trinket. (x)This is done t show juxtaposition between the extreme wealth of the Capitol and the poverty of those in District 12. (x)This worked well with the use of make-up as shown by Effie. She has lots of make-up on including long pink eyelashes, an extremely white foundation and pink and gold lips. This tells the viewer that she is wealthy because she can afford extravagant make-up when those in the district can barely afford clothes. This aspect can be compared to the scene where the tributes arrive off the train in the Capitol. Here we see luxury and excess wealth in the costumes of the Capitol citizens compared to rags worn by Peeta and Katniss.

Metal and Oxygen
When a metal reacts with oxygen it produces a metal oxide.
Our aim in this experiment is to make a metal oxide and observe the difference in properties of the product compared to the reactants.
The equipment we used are a piece of magnesium, Bunsen burner, safety glasses, and metal scissor tongs.
Method:
1) Light your Bunsen burner. 2) Hold your piece of magnesium in the scissor tongs. Ensure you are holding onto the very tip of the magnesium. 3) Place the other end of the magnesium into the Bunsen flame (at the top of the blue flame). 4) When the magnesium begins to burn, do not look directly at it, as the light emitted can permanently damage your eyes.
Observation: When the magnesium got burned, it lighten up for a while and turned into ashes. That's what I saw.
Metal and Acid
When a metal reacts with an acid, the same types of products are always formed.
The equipment we used are Bunsen burner, a test tube, a boiling tube, wooden splint, a bottle of acid, a piece of metal (Magnesium), and safety glasses.
Method: 1) Light your Bunsen burner. 2) Add your sample of metal to your test tube. Add 2mL of acid. 3) Carefully invert the boiling tube above the test tube containing the metal and acid. 4) Hold the test tubes together for a few minutes, allowing time for the inverted boiling tube to fill with gas. 5) When you think the tube is full, your lab partner should light a wooden splint. 6) Carefully, but quickly, tilt the boiling tube full of gas upwards and insert the burning splint into the mouth of the test tube.
Observation: As the magnesium reacted with the acid it released hydrogen gas going up stuck in the boiling tube that's upside down outside the test tube, then carefully and quickly burned that hydrogen gas , the boiling tube.

Making Indicators
The aim in this experiment we did is to make acid-base indicators using everyday substances.
Equipment we used:
Red Cabbage, tea, beetroot, turmeric, cranberry juice, a beaker, water tripod, Bunsen burner, gauze mat, acid(HCI), and base(NaOH).
At first, we chop the cabbage into small pieces until it have enough to fill 2 cups, then place the cabbage in a large beaker and add water to cover the cabbage. Boil over a Bunsen burner for at least ten minutes for the colour to leach out of the cabbage. filter out the plant material to obtain a red-purple-bluish coloured liquid. This liquid is about pH 7. (The exact colour you get depends on the pH of the water.) Place in a small beaker and leave to one side, repeat this method for the beetroot. For the tea, put 100 ml of water into a beaker and boil. Turn off the Bunsen burner and put three tea bags in the beaker. Remove the tea bags when the tea is very strong. Place in a small beaker and leave to one side. For the cranberry juice, pour into a beaker and leave to one side. For the turmeric Mix 1 teaspoon turmeric in 100 mL cup of alcohol. Place in a small beaker and leave to one side.
The results:

Neutralisation
We did an experiment neutralisation meaning adding the right amount of acid and base together, our aim was to mix together acid and base and somehow turn it into colour green.
What we have to do to create a colour green is to balance or add the right amount of acid and base (Hydroxide).
What I did first is to add a few drops of acid and base, next I then add a few drops of universal indicator to show what colour it turns to,it turned to colour red meaning it has many acid in it so I drop few of base, the more I drop few base the lesser red it turn, so I drop few of hydroxide until it gets colour green.

What was challenging about this piece and how did you overcome the challenges?
What was challenging about this piece and how did you overcome the challenges?
Doing it solo is the challenging part for me, I overcome it by playing it slowly with both hands.
Were you happy with your final recording/performance? why?
Were you happy with your final recording/performance? why?
Yes, it went well and what I expect to happen.
What would you change about your performance if you could do it again?
What would you change about your performance if you could do it again?
I would probably pick another song that I know.
Were you happy with your overall grade and why?
